This masterclass was designed for in-house tax professionals in large superannuation funds, managed investment trusts and other institutional managed funds and their tax advisors.

The presentations focused on internal tax governance issues and risk management policies and how funds can meet requirements and expectations of key stakeholders (e.g. members, unit holders, ATO). The presentations also looked at the interaction of institutional trusts with their custodians for tax reporting and related purposes. Key tax reform projects, such as MITs, Division 6 rewrite, My Super and FATCA were also covered, as well as current issues, such as:

  • measurement of after tax performance
  • present entitlement issues
  • post distribution learnings
  • ATO risk review programs - TOFA, FX, capital losses.
