Taxation Issues for Employers

Source: Victoria

Published Date: 17 Feb 2004

In this competitive environment employers need to understand how to attract and retain the best employees. To ensure that you are not at a competitive disadvantage you need to understand:
- tax effective salary packaging
- the real cost of entertaining staff when you take into account FBT, tax deductibility and GST
- how to maximise the tax benefits of contributing to superannuation
- the best way to structure employee share plans to provide tax effective benefits to employees.

In addition, you need to make sure your obligations are being met. For example: Have you met your pay-roll tax and WorkCover obligations? Will you have insurance entitlements if an employee or contractor is injured?
