Q&A: GST - valuations under the Margin Scheme

On 22 May 2003, the Commissioner of Taxation announced that the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will relax the GST requirements for businesses that sell property under the margin scheme. The announcement foreshadowed the release of two fact sheets outlining the ATO's new approach to the margin scheme. The Commissioner released two fact sheets regarding the use of the margin scheme on 30 May 2003. This article considers the use of the margin scheme and the Commissioner's fact sheets.
