The Tax Forum Season is returning this year! Tax Forums are the most comprehensive tax events in your state’s CPD calendar. Designed by an organising committee of industry experts, each Tax Forum addresses key topics relevant to the profession and features a mix of local and interstate tax experts.

WA Tax Forum

13—14 March 2025 | Pan Pacific Perth | 12 CPD hours  

The WA Tax Forum is the most expansive program on the WA CPD calendar, long established as the leading event for WA's tax profession.

Lunch and Session 4 | Inspector-General of Taxation and Taxation Ombudsman update  

Delegates will hear from the Inspector-General on her priorities, having taken on the role in July 2024, and her perspective on improving the integrity and health of tax administration. There will be an opportunity for questions and issues to be raised with the Inspector-General.  

Session 7 | Current state of play with TASA and TPB — A panel session with The Tax Institute's Robyn Jacobson, CTA, Tracey Dunn, EY and Tim Sandow, CTA, BDO  

This expert panel will discuss the latest changes to help you navigate your new obligations. The panel will also consider the International Ethical Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) new global standard on ethical considerations in tax planning and related services which applies from 1 July 2025.  

Session 12 | The modern-day practitioner in the digital age — Leveraging technology to stay ahead  

The conversation around AI and technology has shifted. No longer just a topic of future speculation, it’s now about practical application and strategy. While human expertise remains irreplaceable, the question has become: How can technology elevate what we do?

Listen to Dr Bender discuss the discretionary powers of the trustee, income distribution, and capital gains tax, amongst other issues. Explore how to overcome these issues and deal with them to ensure things run smoothly and remain compliant. 

Day two, Session 12B: Employment taxes — Where to from here?  

Join Elissa Romanin, MinterEllison, Daniel Kornberg, MinterEllison as they discuss the ins-and-outs of employment taxes. Employment taxes affect almost every Australian, and it is vital to be well informed of how ever-changing legislation and policies can impact employers and employees. Consider the current economy, its trajectory, changes in the workforce and the implications for employment taxes. Consider future reform and economic trends and what that may mean when it comes to employment taxes.

Day One, Session 6B: Alcohol taxation in Australia —  A tour of the different regimes 

Alcohol taxation has recently been a topic of contention in Australian media. Jessica Pengelly, CTA, will deliver a rousing keynote on alcohol taxation in Australia, including the excise taxes on alcohol and the implications of additional taxes on alcohol on a statewide and national level. Consider the impact of Goods and Services Tax on the rising cost of alcohol to the consumer and the potential public health considerations that come with the tax increase. 

Day Two, Session 11: Walking the tightrope - Anti-Avoidance traps for corporate restructures in preparation for sale 

Briony Hutcheson, CTA, takes us through anti-avoidance traps in the preparation of sales in corporate restructures. Delve into themes surrounding tax consolidation, market value and transfers, and their impact on corporate restructures. Companies should to speak with advisers to remain compliant and minimise the risk of activating anti-avoidance provisions.
