The future of the tax profession 

The Brisbane Emerging Leaders Program was hosted in early August at the BDO office in Brisbane, as Norman Hanna from the QLD Bar presented an overview of the residency tests in Australia.

The session allowed for plenty of discussion and question time, with banter on case law and discussions on tax scenarios in the boardroom-style setting.

The Emerging Leaders program is running in Brisbane this year across four sessions from March to November, but in 2024, a refreshed version of the program will be rolled out nationally. 

The Brisbane series has been heavily female-dominated, challenging the gender scales in the tax profession. While The Tax Institute has had a history of being slanted towards males, in the younger cohort of members, we’re seeing nearly a 50/50 ratio split between genders. 

Emerging Leaders Brisbane Committee Chair, Melissa Walton, CTA from BDO enjoys being on the committee and is really hoping to increase numbers for the final session running on 8 November as the group discusses the ever-popular tax topic of Division 7A.
