The Tax Agent Services Regulations 2022 (TASR) states that to become a registered BAS agent, individual applicants must satisfy certain qualifications and experience requirements.
Please refer to the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) website to learn more. It explains applicants must have at least Certificate IV Financial Services in bookkeeping or accounting and outlines the number of hours of relevant experience. It also states that applicants must have completed a:
- Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) approved course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles.
- Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) approved unit in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 (TASA), including the Code of Professional Conduct (Code).
The BAS Agent Exam allows you to fulfil the first of the requirements listed above to register as a BAS Agent with the (TPB). Once registered, you can find work as a bookkeeper or a registered BAS agent. For small business owners, this will help to fulfil BAS and bookkeeping duties.
Our TASA 2009 and The Code of Professional Conduct Course has been designed to fulfil the second requirement listed above to register as a BAS Agent with the TPB.
Please note: the BAS Agent Exam will not meet all requirements set out by the TPB when registering as a BAS agent. Contact the TPB to ensure you have the latest information and for any special requirements specific to your individual circumstances.
