Stephen is a Special Counsel in the MinterEllison tax practice, specialising primarily in tax controversy. Stephen advises multinationals and ASX-listed companies on how to manage their tax disputes, and has experience in all jurisdictions, having previously litigated matters concerning income tax (including transfer pricing and R&D), GST and all State taxes and duties. Stephen is the instructing solicitor in a number of high profile proceedings, acting for both taxpayers and the Commissioner, with recent highlights including Victoria Power Networks Pty Ltd v FCT, Hart v FCT, Song v FCT and PKWK and Innovation and Science Australia in addition to a number of cases currently awaiting decisions. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Melbourne, a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney, and a recipient of the Tax Institute’s Justice Graham Hill Scholarship.
