SYDNEY, 19 January 2024: The Tax Institute is pleased to welcome Todd Want, CTA, Head of Tax Services at accounting and advisory firm William Buck, as its President for 2024. Todd has sat on the Institute’s National Council, NSW Professional Development Committee and State Council for several years.

Todd says, ‘I’m delighted and honoured to take on the role of President at The Tax Institute. The Institute and its fantastic community have made a significant impact on my own career over the years, and I’m excited to give that experience to a whole new generation of tax practitioners.’

‘Early in your career, having a network of peers and mentors to open doors for you is so important in not only getting ahead, but in working out what direction you want to progress your career. I’m excited to help younger practitioners tap into the Institute’s community to access those opportunities.’

In 2024, The Tax Institute has a full schedule of professional development opportunities for tax practitioners, including 27 major CPD events, three intake opportunities for structured learning and regular member-exclusive resources.

‘A lifelong desire to continue learning, developing and growing is the thread that connects all our members, no matter where or what they practice. The Institute has historically been known for providing high quality, relevant and highly tailored tax education. I’m excited to continue this legacy, and to build on it in future focused ways,’ Todd says.

Last year, The Tax Institute launched its new micro-credential learning suite, Tax Academy, to a B2B audience, offering a new way for employers to engage staff with learning and development opportunities.

‘With the shortage of high-quality tax practitioners more acute than ever, it is crucial for those managing teams to prioritise engagement and high performance. We are assisting the profession in finding new learning pathways to invest in their team’s future and develop the skills needed by Australian businesses,’ Todd says.

During 2024, Todd says member voices will be a renewed focus for the Institute.

‘Our members are a diverse community of intelligent, talented professionals who know what support they need. They want us to listen and assist in meaningful ways. Whether it is educational opportunities, our advocacy work, the resources we produce or the events we hold, we are committed to hearing members’ voices and reflecting them in all we do.’
